FOUNDATION NEWS

A Message From our President & CEO

We are so proud to have recently published our latest Community Needs Assessment Report, Poverty Amidst Plenty VII: Moving Forward Together. You will find more about the needs assessment and the public sessions led by Dr. Pam Brown in this newsletter. The report, along with these public presentations and subsequent discussions, are paramount to helping us solve the issues that face our county, giving us hope for the future. We know that there is no better way than community support to meet and solve the challenges put forth by the findings.

The Celebration of Philanthropy award recipients also hold hope for our future! Read more about these incredibly dedicated and humble individuals that have changed the lives of many for the good in this newsletter. They have made a significant impact in our community and I hope you can join us on November 3 to honor them at our Celebration of Philanthropy Awards luncheon. Find out more here.

In other big news, CFAAC is receiving $1 million of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding to grant to our local nonprofits in the coming months. Grants between $10,000 and $50,000 will provide financial assistance to eligible nonprofits that identify solutions to the needs identified in the 2022 Community Needs Assessment. Find out more in this newsletter.

Franklin D. Roosevelt  said it best: “We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.” Our needs assessment sessions, our Celebration of Philanthropy, our grants awarded, and our wonderful nonprofits all give us this optimism for the time ahead.

Happy fall,

Mary Spencer
President & CEO

Charitable Giving in a Challenging Economy

Earlier this year, Bankrate and Psych Central released the Money and Mental Health study and, not surprisingly, a large number of people surveyed in the research reported that money has a negative impact on their mental health. Survey results varied across generations: According to the study, financial concerns psychologically impact 48% of Millennials, 46% of Generation X, and 40% of Generation Z. Needless to say, every generation will feel the sting of any bear market, including (and especially) Baby Boomers.

At the moment, economic conditions feel, well, awful. Some people may feel better if they can gain a better understanding of the factors that created the unpleasant mix of inflation, rising interest rates, and a bear market. Others may be comforted knowing they are not alone as they ride the emotional rollercoaster. And for those who are charitably inclined, challenging economic times might serve as an inspiration to become more intentional about charitable giving priorities. What's more, not all donors will reduce their donations.

Read more on our blog about the three messages worth sharing with your philanthropic clients as bear market conditions hang on into the fourth quarter.

Disaster Philanthropy: Your Clients and the Important Role of Individual Philanthropy

Sadly, your philanthropic clients may have grown accustomed to making charitable donations to support disaster relief. Individual donations provide critical resources to help communities recover from the many disasters due to weather, fire, disease, and war that unfortunately can occur each year.

In the wake of Hurricane Ian, your clients may ask you about their options to support those affected by the storm. We encourage you to reach out to the team at the Community Foundation. We can connect your donors with a variety of options for giving that are trustworthy and effective. Disaster relief funding is frequently coordinated by community foundations, which are widely viewed as one of the very best vehicles to help donors provide financial support to relief efforts. Individual giving is critically important to any disaster relief effort, and CFAAC can help your clients make an immediate, powerful, and positive impact on the lives of those affected by Hurricane Ian or any disaster.
