Director of Gift Planning

John joined CFAAC in 2023 as Director of Gift Planning after working 25 years at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF). As CFAAC’s Director of Gift Planning, John cultivates and stewards relationships with current and prospective donors, as well as professional advisors, including members of the Anne Arundel Estate Planning Council (AAEPC). He assists advisors with trusts, estate planning, and other deferred gifts to help their clients achieve a lasting philanthropic legacy in the community.

Prior to joining CFAAC, John worked as CBF’s Maryland Director of Major Giving, where he managed a large and diverse portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and donors, and served as a facilitator of CBF's major gift team strategy. Throughout the 10 years he held the position, John successfully raised millions of dollars through donations, grants, and planned gifts in support of CBF’s operating budget and three major capital campaigns. He cultivated and maintained meaningful relationships with donors to maximize impact for CBF’s Environmental Education, Restoration, Advocacy, and Litigation programs in MD, PA, NY, VA, WV, DE, and D.C. He was also the manager and co-leader of CBF’s President's Advisory Council in Maryland. Previous positions John held at CBF include Discovery Program Manager, Field Program Manager and Restoration Coordinator. Prior to that John worked as a Faculty Research Assistant at Horn Point Lab in Cambridge, Maryland.

John is an active member of Annapolis Fundraising Professionals and earned the role of valedictorian during his 2017 Leadership Maryland class. He is currently a board member of the Maryland Coastal Conservation Association and a former board member at Unity Gardens in Annapolis and Green School of Baltimore. John received his BA in Communications from the Pennsylvania State University. He is a USCG licensed captain of 35 years and has been an active member in the Anne Arundel County community since 1993. He currently lives in Arnold, Maryland, with his wife, two children and their yellow lab, Ted.
