Youth Mental Health First Aid (In-Person Course)

LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18.  The course is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.  You’ll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to young people who are struggling. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
  • Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis.
  • Know how to connect a young person with help.
  • Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying, substance use, and more.

The course costs $25 per person, includes materials and breaktime refreshments. ***Please bring your own lunch.***

Course participants must be age 18 or older.

Registration is limited to 30 participants. Register by June 22nd to receive a certificate of completion.

Marguerite Keane Gibbons, LCSW-C

Marguerite (Marcie) Gibbons is the Hub Coordinator for the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency. With a background in clinical social work, higher education, and hospice care, she brings decades of experience supporting mental health and wellness across diverse settings. Marcie is also a National Trainer for Adult, Youth, and Teen Mental Health First Aid.
