Looking back on the past year, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our four retiring board members. Their hard work and dedication have been instrumental in our accomplishments. The passion and commitment they’ve shown to our community leave an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire us in the future. We are deeply grateful for the countless hours they’ve devoted to support our mission. Thank you Kate Caldwell, Jim Humphrey, Jennifer Pratt, and Karen Whaley for your service.
Kate Caldwell has been an instrumental part of our board since 2019, serving as Assistant Secretary since 2023. Her extensive knowledge in nonprofit development, planned giving, and fundraising has aided us in multiple ways. Kate brought her decades of fundraising expertise to CFAAC's Fund Development and Communications Committee, recently serving as Chair and introducing innovative ideas that guided our efforts. Her wise counsel, support, and encouragement for our fundraising team was invaluable. Kate’s enthusiasm and commitment are contagious and we are forever grateful for her service. We can’t thank you enough, Kate.
Jim Humphrey joined the CFAAC board in 2018 and served as Board President from 2022 to 2023. He has been instrumental to our success over the years as a transformational donor and engaged board member. Jim was also on several committees during his tenure. He and his wife Linda’s belief in CFAAC and our mission have turned our ambitious goals into reality, touching countless lives throughout Anne Arundel County. Jim retires as immediate past chair and his involvement on the board has left a significant and enduring impression on CFAAC. And though he is stepping away from his current role, his legacy of compassion and contribution will remain with us. Jim was named an emeritus board member for his significant contributions of his time, resources, and expertise. We are indebted to you, Jim, and know that you will always be a part of this organization. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
Jennifer Pratt brought her valuable knowledge to our new focus on planned giving when she joined our board in 2019. Jennifer co-presented our first Legacy Fundholder Educational Luncheon alongside Kate Caldwell, and helped to create a meaningful experience for attendees. Jennifer also served on the Fund Development and Communications Committee as well as its subcommittee, the Strategic Planning Committee, offering her time and talents to support our mission. Thank you Jennifer.
Like Jim, Karen Whaley was named an emeritus board member. Her significant contributions to the history, strength, and solid growth of CFAAC cannot be overstated. First joining the board in 2007 and serving through 2016, she rejoined the board in 2019 and served a total of six additional years! She has been a backbone at the Community Foundation for many years—even becoming our financial guru and cheerleader prior to hiring a CPA on staff. As a leader, Karen always provided valuable insight and steadfast commitment to CFAAC. As Board Treasurer, she applied her meticulous attention to detail in reviewing our budget. In 2022, Karen was one of the first inductees into our Professional Advisor Recognition Society. Also a member of the Budget and Finance committee, Karen has contributed a great deal over the years. Thanks so much Karen for your years of dedicated service. We will be forever thankful.
