CFAAC Women and Girls Fund Awards $13,360 in Grants

Grants from the Women and Girls Fund are used to support nonprofits that help women and girls pursue positive, productive lives by helping remove barriers, increasing their economic security, enhancing their well-being and safety, and empowering them to make positive life decisions for themselves and their families.

The Women and Girls Fund awarded three grants, totaling $13,360.  As part of the grant agreement, the organizations are required to submit a follow-up report and document progress, successes and barriers to success, and identify outcomes. The following three programs recently received grants:

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland to support its Community Troop Initiative to create two new Girl Scout Troops in under-resourced communities in the City of Annapolis public housing area and Brooklyn/Brooklyn Park in North County. These troops will assist girls in grades K-8 by enriching their individual skills, decreasing isolation, creating new experiences, and empowering them to face major obstacles due to poverty and lack of access to resources. Sixty girls who reside in the two target communities and 20 adult community mentors will benefit from this grant during the 2020-2021 project period.

Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake to provide an additional 21 - 24 girls in Anne Arundel County the ability to participate in the Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake program. The program teaches girls in 3rd - 8th grades social, emotional, and physical well-being through a combination of physical activity and research-based lessons taught by trained volunteers.

SheRises, Inc. RISE (Reach Inspire Strengthen and Empower) to support its Mentoring Pilot Program that will provide five young mothers with support in three areas – academic support such as tutoring, SAT and ACT prep, GED prep, FAFSA help, and general college planning; life and career support including advising, planning, interview skills, resume development, financial literacy, co-parenting techniques, health and wellness, and pregnancy prevention; and emotional and mental health support through mentorship, coaching, and individual counseling.

A gift made in support of Women and Girls Fund will help make citizens aware of environmental issues and help protect the Chesapeake Bay, local streams and rivers, and other natural areas in Anne Arundel County. Those wishing to contribute can:
