Sean M. O’Neill, CFP, CRPS takes his role as the Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor at RBC Wealth Management to heart. In his role, he works with business owners, retirees, executives, and their families to simplify their financial lives. Providing his clients with guidance on ways to give, he also promotes philanthropy, often partnering with CFAAC to help people fulfill their charitable goals.

He sits with each client to curate a plan based on their financial goals and dreams. For some, it’s creating a financial roadmap that will allow them to send their kids to college. Others may desire an earlier and more fulfilling retirement. For those clients who have spent their careers building toward these dreams, Sean loves helping them enjoy the fruits of their labor, whether that's the vacation of a lifetime, more time with family, or the freedom to pursue what matters most to them.

While he works closely with his clients to make sure they stay on track financially, Sean says his clients are the ones who deserve the real praise. “They’re the ones who earn the money, and we just invest for them,” he asserts. “But the most rewarding part of my job is to see their plans come together and actually work.”

Sean believes money should be invested according to his clients’ goals, but that giving back is equally important. His motto is that everyone has a duty to leave the world a better place than they found it, and he says giving, through volunteer work or donating money to a charity, is one way to help reach that goal. He lives by that idea in his personal life, too.

While he is dedicated to his work, he is equally and actively involved in his community. He previously served as Executive Committee Chair of the Anne Arundel Estate Planning Council. Sean founded and serves as treasurer for the Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM). He has also held leadership roles with Annapolis Business Association, Downtown Annapolis Partnership, Maryland Seafood Festival, Eastport-A-Rockin’ Street Festival, the Entrepreneurs’ Exchange organization, the City of Annapolis Alcohol Beverage Control Board, the Admiral Heights Improvement Association, the 2014 City of Annapolis Economic Development Transition Team, the Annapolis City Dock Action Committee, and the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce.

As for why he enjoys recommending CFAAC to his clients and beyond, he says it’s because of the immediate impact. “What CFAAC does is hyperlocal. When you give to a larger organization that you may not be involved with day to day, you never really see where your money goes,” he says. “But when you have an organization that's in your backyard, and you can give to them, you can see the results right in front of you. There’s something to be said for the satisfaction that brings.”
