Aging in place often comes down to being able to do the simplest things — getting to a doctor’s appointment, fixing a loose handrail, or finding a safe way to get to the grocery store. Partners in Care (PIC) turns what could be everyday challenges for some older adults into opportunities for connection by using volunteers who drive, repair and install household items, and support seniors so they can live independently.
Through a CFAAC Fund for Anne Arundel grant, PIC is looking to increase the number and kinds of services it offers to seniors living in Anne Arundel County, making sure these acts of kindness continue and provide a lifeline to many. When seniors can no longer drive, safely navigate their communities, or manage small household tasks, their risk of housing insecurity grows. Partners in Care helps by providing the support these seniors need to safely stay where they are. And with that stability comes something equally important: connection. By lessening isolation and ensuring seniors remain engaged in daily life, the organization and its volunteers help protect against the loneliness and mental health challenges that many seniors face in living alone.
Partners in Care operates through a unique culture of service exchange and time banking where members volunteer their time and talents to help each other with everyday tasks and ask for help when they need services. Beyond ride partners and repair services, PIC also offers a mobility bus, a Veterans Helping Veterans program, an upscale resale boutique, and member care services, which encompasses one-on-one support that includes social learning events, check-ins, advocacy, and resource navigation.
In the fall of 2025, Partners In Care Maryland, Inc. officially joined Hospice of the Chesapeake under the newly formed Chesapeake Health Partners. The collaboration is a natural fit, ensuring older adults receive compassionate support at every stage of life, said PIC Director of Operations Amy Van Orden. Partners In Care will continue operating under its own name, mission, and volunteer programs, while both organizations work together to enhance services and deepen the impact of care for seniors throughout the community.
All the while, FFAA grant dollars will continue to empower older adults to support each other with handyman services, rides to appointments, social outings and stores along with mobility-bus assistance that helps seniors stay safe and self-sufficient. Partners in Care holds an endowment fund with CFAAC: the Partners in Care Maryland Endowment Fund.
