THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE & LEGACY OF MITCHELL WOOD RUSSELL

MITCHELL “MITCH” WOOD RUSSELL
(May 21, 1996 – June 07, 2019)

Mitchell (Mitch) Wood Russell, 23, was the cherished son of Stacey Wood Russell, adored brother of Wade Russell, treasured stepson and stepbrother to Pete, Will, and Quinn Freeman and the boyfriend of the love of his life Samantha Prager. He is also survived by his grandparents Sharon Wood and Ray Wood; his uncles, Steve Wood and Chris Wood; and his Aunt Joan Wood. He is also survived by his cousins Tori, AJ, Collin, and Kelsey.

Mitch loved doing just about anything with his girlfriend, Sam. He loved living on the Severn River and going to his family camp in the Adirondacks. He also loved anything to do with assembling, disassembling, programming, and playing with computers. When Mitch would emerge from his computer lair, he loved being with friends eating good food, hiking, music (especially live music), playing the piano, wearing flannels, and watching horror movies. He will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Mitch attended Severna Park High School class of 2014, where he discovered his passion for computers. He was a senior at Towson University, pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science with a Math minor. Mitch had participated in countless Green Hornets sports, was a Scout in Troop 339, and was an avid skateboarder.

Mitch was loved by all who knew him, because his heart was as big as he was tall, and he gave that love unconditionally to his family and friends. This is his legacy; the unconditional love and caring that he gave to anyone he met, especially family and his many, many friends. There was a special place in Mitch’s heart for all the worlds’ creatures, especially rescue animals. In his life he had been a part of rescuing four cats, and recently his newest love was a big, white, rescue dog named Ghost (previously known as Marshmallow) from TRU Rescue.

Mitch and Ghost loved each other from first sight and when Mitch learned his four-legged companion would require special medical attention, he did not hesitate to provide Ghost with all the love and care he would need to become a happy and healthy pup. Dogs with Heartworm Disease are restricted in exercise, so Mitch would keep Ghost entertained by teaching him tricks. Mitch discovered that Ghost already knew how to give his paw for a shake and turned this into teaching Ghost how to high-five. The two would give each other high-fives all day long for various reasons and Mitch thought it was the funniest thing. When Mitch and Ghost weren’t practicing their tricks, they enjoyed snuggling and movie sessions.

The Mitchell Wood Russell Memorial Fund was created to honor Mitch’s profound and loving impact on his family, friends, and the world. Grants from the fund will support organizations that reflect Mitch’s love for rescue animals and all the fun of growing up on the Severn River, like TRU Rescue and the Severn River Association. Mitch’s legacy will continue, through the generosity of this fund, so that his memory will never be forgotten.
