A MESSAGE FROM THE BAY JOURNAL
The Bay Journal provides independent environmental reporting for the Chesapeake region — and it’s the only media outlet in the Bay watershed dedicated to this important job.
For more than 30 years, we’ve been covering critical topics like the Bay cleanup effort, climate change, environmental justice, stream restoration, toxic pollution, forest health, invasive species and land conservation. And, of course, we report on the health of striped bass, blue crabs, oysters and other wildlife.
Our focus on the environment means that writers and editors develop expertise and have time to dive deeper into complex topics and answer lingering questions. As traditional news organizations across the county continue to shrink and fold, we’re providing a resource that’s becoming harder to find.
Our products and services include the Bay Journal (subscriptions in print and through email); the Bay Journal website; the Chesapeake Uncharted podcast; and the Bay Journal News Service, which shares our content for free use by other media. We also produce news videos and documentary films, such as High Tide in Dorchester.
Together, our products and services reach an average of more than 200,000 people every month. They have inspired informed and active public engagement in protecting and restoring the region's shared natural resources.
We could not sustain or expand our work without contributions from readers and charitable foundations. With your generous support, we can:
- Provide fair and informative reporting on complex environmental issues
- Publish Bay Journal articles in print, in an email newsletter and on our website
- Produce films, news videos and our Chesapeake Uncharted podcast
- Host informative webinars open to the public
- Operate the Bay Journal News Service
- Inspire readers to take personal stewardship action, become civically engaged and interact with the natural world
