Our 21st Annual Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon is just around the corner! With that said, we still are accepting nominations – our deadline has been extended to Friday, August 6th. If you know an individual, group, business, or family who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to our community please submit a nomination to recognize their contributions to Anne Arundel County. Nominations are being accepted in eight categories this year including Philanthropist of the Year, Corporate Philanthropist of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Boots on the Ground Award, Carroll H. Hynson, Jr. Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Philanthropy, Carol Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Legacy Award for Planned Giving. You’ll find a description of each award here with a link to the nomination form. If you have questions, need assistance, or want to discuss your nomination, call Amy Francis at 410.280.1102 ext. 102.

Our Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon will be held in person on November 5, 2021. Seating will be limited this year, so I encourage you to reserve your seat early. I’m sure you will find this awards ceremony not only moving and enlightening but also encouraging. There is so much good in our community – and we look forward to celebrating it with all of you!

Celebration of Philanthropy Award Categories

Do you know someone you would like to thank for making a difference in Anne Arundel County? Nominate them for a 2021 Celebration of Philanthropy Award!

On November 5, 2021, CFAAC's Celebration of Philanthropy Awards will highlight and honor eight generous and committed community members that represent the depth and breadth of philanthropy in Anne Arundel County, If you know an individual, family, or business making an impact on our community by donating their time, talent, or financial resources, consider nominating them for a 2021 Celebration of Philanthropy Award.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Nominations must be received by C.O.B Friday, August 6th! Email completed nomination forms, written statements, and supporting documents to amy@cfaac.org.

Awardees in the following eight categories will be selected by a committee made up of past Celebration of Philanthropy Award recipients, which include philanthropists, volunteers, and local nonprofit, business, and community leaders.

Philanthropist of the Year Award — Presented to an individual or family (family foundations are eligible for this award) with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and philanthropic responsibility, exemplary leadership in advancing philanthropy, and whose generosity encourages others to become philanthropic leaders, particularly in Anne Arundel County. 

Corporate Philanthropist of the Year Award — Presented to a local business/corporation (corporate foundations are eligible for this award) that has a proven record of exceptional generosity and demonstrates outstanding civic and philanthropic responsibility through direct financial support to nonprofits located in Anne Arundel County. The local business/corporation encourages and motivates its employees to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement with local nonprofits.  

Volunteer of the Year Award — Presented to an individual or team of volunteers (formal or informal) with a proven record of volunteerism who, through the donations of time and talent has played a key role in helping local nonprofit organizations provide services to the community. They often make the difference in an organization being able to expand its services to a wider audience or move its programs to a higher level of service to the community.

Young Volunteer of the Year Award — Presented to an individual student or youth group (elementary through college age) who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and/or leadership. Examples of activities may include tutoring, mentoring, designing social media tools for nonprofits, raising funds or goods (food, clothing, toys, etc.), performing a public service to help build a playground, renovate housing, clean up a waterway, etc.

Boots on the Ground Award — Presented to an individual who has gone above and beyond to improve lives and meet community needs through their exceptional efforts - mobilizing resources for public benefit, leading by example, serving when they are called, advocating, and volunteering for those in our community who need help. Their efforts have a direct, real, tangible impact on our neighbors and our community!

Carroll H. Hynson, Jr. Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Philanthropy — This award is named in honor of Carroll H. Hynson, Jr., founding CFAAC Board Member and longest-running host of the Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon. It will be presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to philanthropy by building bridges, connecting people dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and championing the acceptance, respect, and inclusion of all.

Carol Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award – This award is named in honor of Carol Thompson, the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) Founder, and its first Executive Director. It is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to advancing philanthropy by demonstrating long-standing leadership, creativity in responding to societal problems, and making a significant, positive impact on philanthropy in Anne Arundel County. 

Legacy Award for Planned Giving — Recognizes an individual donor/philanthropist who has made a significant contribution to one or more local nonprofits using a planned gift. A planned gift is any major gift, made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning. These include gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash. This award is presented in partnership with the Anne Arundel Estate Planning Council.

Celebration of Philanthropy Sponsorship Opportunities

We need your support to ensure our 2021 Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon is a resounding success! Celebration of Philanthropy Sponsors will have the opportunity to promote their business to our community’s most invested and generous residents. Sponsors will be mentioned in all Celebration of Philanthropy Awards publicity, both prior to and during the event, including being listed in all printed materials, press materials, and in the event program.
