CFAAC’s Arts and Culture Fund Supports Art Installation at the New Severn Intergenerational Center
Last month, county residents, Gov. Wes Moore, County Executive Steuart Pittman, and other Anne Arundel County constituents gathered at the Severn Intergenerational Center for its ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a mural and mosaic funded by CFAAC’s Arts and Culture Fund.
Also attending were CFAAC Board members Vincent Moulden and Ed Evans and CFAAC’s Director of Gift Planning John Rodenhausen. “It was an honor and a privilege to attend the opening,” said John. “I was inspired to see the people of Severn realize a decades-long vision for this center and the positive impact made by Community Foundation donors who provided a portion of the funding for this community to have a safe and beautiful place to gather, learn, and play.”
The CFAAC funds allowed the team at the Severn Intergenerational Center, through the support of the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County (ACAAC), to help fund artists to create two outdoor arts-oriented spaces (a mural and a mosaic) at the center. Funds also supported calls, meetings, and awards for submitted artwork as well as identification of artist designs included at the center. This fund is one of several Field of Interest Funds that serve a unique role in the community by pooling the charitable gifts of like-minded donors to work on a common area of interest. In addition, funds from a CFAAC Donor Advised Fund supported the purchase of much of the furniture for the Center.
The Severn Intergenerational Center is a brand new 26,000 square foot facility that is a welcoming space for all community members in the Severn area and features a senior center, Boys & Girls Club spaces, meeting rooms, and activity spaces. The project was developed based on a need raised by concerned residents in the community. The project was led by the Arundel Community Development Services in coordination with a team of Severn community leaders. The CFAAC grant supported the public art projects included at the center.
