SUPPORT THE WELLNESS HOUSE OF ANNAPOLIS ENDOWMENT FUND
A Message from the Wellness House of Annapolis
Please consider supporting Wellness House of Annapolis through our endowment fund and help keep this vital community resource free to everyone in our community touched by cancer.
Cancer touches everyone Wellness House of Annapolis has been an integral part of the Anne Arundel County community for 18 years, providing vital mental health support to individuals and families as they navigate the complicated road of cancer. Founded in 2006 by Dr. Kelly Sullivan, an Annapolis plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Sullivan identified a need in our community for a place where patients and families dealing with the profound effects of cancer could go for emotional and behavioral help and support. Our programs are designed to help individuals and families navigate the complicated reality of serious illness by providing experiences that foster understanding, strength, resiliency, and overall well-being, and give tools that can serve them now and into the future. Our no-cost model makes our programs and services accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of socio-economic status.
Wellness House addresses the unique needs of individuals and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis through our 35+ free mental health and well-being programs and services that care for the entire family including individual and family counseling, 11 support groups focused on various cancer challenges, health and wellbeing programs, meditation, yoga, therapeutic art and music, social gatherings like Wellness on the Water and Teatime, Healing with Horses, and highly skilled mental health professionals and practitioners with expertise in cancer support. We are the only free resource for mental health and well-being support in Anne Arundel County, specifically handling the unique challenges for those touched by cancer.
Wellness House is described by members as a healing oasis in the middle of suburbia, a refuge from the sterile environment of medical institutions and the chaos of the modern world. Situated on a bucolic 200-acre horse farm at 2625 Mas Que Farm Road in Annapolis, we occupy a beautiful farmhouse, donated for our use by local philanthropist Janet Richardson-Pearson.
What oncology professionals are saying:
“Patients participate in the services of Wellness House without any financial cost, alleviating one of the most difficult things about any disease -the strain on the financial health of a family. Cancer can cost individuals tens of thousands of dollars out-of-pocket, depending on insurance coverage. This leaves many families struggling to pay medical bills with little money left over to invest in palliative care and wellness services that are so important to a patient’s recovery.”
– Dr. David Weng, an oncologist with Maryland Oncology and Hematology,
What Wellness House members are saying:
“Wellness House has been indispensable as I embarked on a second go around with cancer. It is essential to connect with people on the same journey to be there as resources and for support…the feeling of isolation is there no matter what when facing something as frightening as cancer. Wellness House is a community of compassionate caregivers and courageous cancer warriors, and we are so fortunate to have this resource.”
-WH member“Well, my favorite thing this summer is when my dad got cancer, I learned that life isn’t always going to be perfect. I went to the Wellness House and that made me happy, and that was a fun experience for my summer.”
-Little WH member“When I sat down to talk with Annie about her dad’s cancer, I asked her if there was something specific that she wanted to talk about. Her reply: “I wanted to know why the cells get broken… So, when I grow up, I want to become a scientist so I can figure out how to fix the cells.”
-Meghan Siegel, WH Child Life Specialist
