Fundraising for Endowments Panel Discussion

In this workshop, participants will gain insights and practical skills on creating a successful fundraising campaign for an endowment fund. Led by experts in philanthropy and campaign management, the workshop will open with a presentation covering topics like crafting compelling narratives, identifying target donors, and employing strategic communication techniques. Following the presentation, participants are invited to ask specific questions to gain the knowledge and tools necessary to develop and execute a robust endowment fundraising strategy.

About the Panelists & Moderator:

Barb Kappel, Presentor & Panalist
Nonprofit Advisor and Fundraising Coach

Barb has a solid portfolio of 24 years professional experience in individual and planned giving, major gifts, events, grant writing, strategic planning, board development, and campaign management. As a consultant for the past 11 years, Barb’s clients and projects have served religious and military communities as well as institutions of healthcare, environment, education, the arts, social justice, and human services.

 

Vollie Melson, Panalist
Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at Anne Arundel Community College

Vollie has over 25 years of development experience across diverse organizational settings, Vollie Melson is a seasoned fundraising professional. Since 2014, he has served as the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at Anne Arundel Community College, where he led his team in steering the institution through its inaugural comprehensive fundraising campaign. Prior to this, Vollie held key roles as the Vice President for Development at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

 

John Rodenhausen, Panalist
Director of Gift Planning at the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County 
John's life's work has been dedicated to supporting a variety of local and regional nonprofits through his time and fundraising efforts with individuals, corporations, and foundations. John remains active with his fellow classmates of Leadership Maryland (2017) and has served on the board of several local nonprofits.

 

Mary Spencer, Moderator 
President & CEO at the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County 
As President & CEO at the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, Mary leads strategic direction and financial growth while fostering philanthropic awareness. With diverse experience in nonprofits and philanthropy, Mary excels in organizational improvements, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. She has raised over $30 million for Anne Arundel County nonprofits, chaired key committees, and served on several local nonprofit boards.
