Education is vital to the growth and future of every person. Each year, CFAAC partners with local philanthropists to administer scholarships for deserving Anne Arundel County high school students striving for advanced education. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, over $300,000 in scholarships have been awarded since 2009 to more than 100 students. Scholarships range from $1,200 - $10,000 and each has unique eligibility requirements.
The Herzberg – Wild Scholarship Fund
Established in honor of Lance Corporal Eric Herzberg, USMC, and Lance Corporal William Taylor Wild, IV, USMC. Both were proud U.S. Marines who dedicated their lives to protecting and defending our country. Eric joined the Marine Corps right after graduation. He was killed in action in Al Anbar, Iraq on October 21, 2006. Taylor deployed to both Afghanistan and
Kuwait. He died in a mortar explosion during a training exercise at Hawthorne Army Depot on March 18, 2013.
Scholarships honoring their memories will be awarded to two Anne Arundel County public high school seniors who demonstrate the qualities celebrated by the U.S. Marines: honor, courage and commitment. The deadline for applications is April 3, 2017. To download an application click here.
The Officer Grant Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund
Grant loved sports and played many, but baseball was his passion, and while in high school he became an umpire with the Maryland Diamond Umpire Association. In 2005, Grant Turner joined the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Grant passed away just five weeks before graduation.
The Officer Grant Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund was later established and hosts one of the largest preseason baseball tournaments in the state. Proceeds from the tournament are used to provide seven scholarships to students graduating from Anne Arundel County High Schools -- Annapolis High School, Arundel High School, Chesapeake High School, Glen Burnie High School, Old Mill High School, Severna Park High School and South River High School. In addition, scholarships are awarded to a dependent of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department and the Maryland Diamond/Anne Arundel County Umpires Association.
The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2017. For more details about nominating a student please email jan@cfaac.org.
