Strengthening Nonprofits Application

A strong nonprofit community is collaborative and made up of organizations that efficiently and effectively manage their operations and provide high-quality programs that meet community needs. We believe that one of the best ways to strengthen our community is by helping to strengthen nonprofits. Nonprofits are doing vital, smart and innovative work every day all over the country.

Our Strengthening Nonprofits Fund provides grants for Anne Arundel County nonprofit organizations to develop organizational capacity around fundraising, nonprofit management, board development, marketing & communications as well as other capacity-building opportunities. Grants may be used to cover costs associated with strategic planning, board/volunteer/staff training, conference and workshop attendance, or other facilitated training opportunities identified by a nonprofit's leadership to be of benefit to the organization. Grant funds also may be used to cover costs associated with board/volunteer/staff participation in online or classroom-based courses, seminar series or conferences that relate to the capacity-building objectives of the organization. Dues for membership in an organization that provides access to capacity-building resources may be eligible for grant funding if the membership is for the nonprofit as a whole rather than for individual employees. As examples, organizational membership in the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations could be eligible; individual membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals would not be eligible.

Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The maximum annual award is $1,000 per organization. A brief report will be required after the completion of the capacity-building project.

Priority consideration is given to small nonprofits with limited resources and staff capacity. CFAAC will not award a grant for general operating support or activities that have already taken place at the time of the application review.
